It has been our experience that Strobilanthes dyerianus performs well in our area in a warm season planting. We have observed its foliage to be more purple when planted in conditions with more sun, however, too much sun will result in the foliage becoming bleached. It is usually best planted in an area that has shade to part shade. It is a fairly low maintenance plant that we have not observed to have any problems with fungal or pest problems. It is about two to two and a half feet tall and about two feet wide.

Despite being ranked cold hardy for zones 10-11, we have found our planting located underneath the protection of a large live oak (Quercus virginiana) to have survived multiple winters, showing minimal damage.
